The 9 Steps of Overseas Recruitment: From Employer Enquiry to Departure

Overseas recruitment can look complicated from the outside. In practice it follows nine clear steps. Knowing them helps employers plan start dates and helps candidates know what comes next.

  1. Enquiry from the employer — the role, numbers, salary and joining date are agreed.
  2. Preparation of legal documents — demand letter, power of attorney and other papers required by the sourcing country.
  3. Vacancy announcement — the openings are advertised through offices and partners in the sourcing countries.
  4. Interview — candidates are interviewed and, for skilled trades, trade-tested. Employers often join online or in person.
  5. Medical — selected candidates complete the medical examination at an approved centre.
  6. Visa processing — the work permit and visa are applied for once documents and medicals are in order.
  7. Final approval — the employer confirms each candidate and the offer is signed.
  8. Orientation — candidates learn about the job, company rules, safety and life in the destination country.
  9. Departure — tickets are issued and workers travel, with arrival and accommodation arranged.

How long does it take?

Timelines depend on the country, trade and number of workers. Clear requirements, quick employer approvals and complete documents are the three things that shorten it most.
